In Search of the Two Lost ROLL Sisters' Families from South Russia

FOUR GERMAN-RUSSIAN WOMEN PULLING A PLOW IN SIBERIA, RUSSIA.
Connie ROLL STROUD wrote, "Thought I should tell you what my grandfather, Jerome Roll, told me about the sister's that were left behind in South Russia. Grandpa told me about them on several occasions through the years. Like you, I am very interested in the family history and I would often ask Grandpa about the past. I loved to listen to his stories. Grandpa told me that his father and brothers sent money a few times to the sisters in South Russia, mainly to pay their way over here to America. But things were very bad there and they took the money away from them. (I'm not sure who they were, maybe rebels or soldiers.) The family in Russia told them not to send money anymore, it only made trouble for them. Anyway, Grandpa told me in the end they had no food and in their last letters to my great grandfather, Sebastian Roll, they said they had to eat bugs off the floor. There was no more money nor food to eat. Then the letters stopped and they were never heard from again. Grandpa said they think they starved to death, but never knew for sure what happened. This is very sad, but at the same time it makes me feel grateful that the three brothers made it to America."
Dear Genealogist:
My name is Mitch ROLL and I am conducting extensive German-Russian genealogy work. Regarding Catholic ancestors who lived in the Beresan District in Cherson, South Russia. I was inquiring if you have any ROLL, MISCHEL, or STROH families in your tree, especially any ROLL females born between 1860 and 1890 who married into your tree. My great grandfather, Sebastian ROLL, left two orphaned sisters in South Russia in 1891 and I am trying to locate their offspring before I visit the Ukraine. They probably lived in or around
Christina [Nova Safranovka], Felsenburg [Velidarovka], Katharinental [Katerinovka], Landau [Schirokolanivka], München, Rastadt [Poriccja] or Sulz [now extinct] . Being orphans, they might have lived in the only orphanage in the Beresan District at the village of Karlsruhe [Stepnowoje]. My grandfather, Michael ROLL, lost contact with them in the 1930's during the "man-made" famines. We think their names are Margaret, and Barbara ROLL
. We need to find out who their families are, which would include both their husband and children's names. We do not know who they married or if they died or immigrated to another country. Due to the fact that many German-Russians moved back to Germany when the Germans retreated in WWII, it is very likely some of the children reside there.
