Felsenburg is a Catholic German colony founded in 1860 about 32 miles east of the large Russian town of Wosnessensk (Voznesens'k), in the Falanez Precinct (Rayon), Nikolajew County (Generalbezirt). The current Ukraine/Russian name is Velidarovka. The village was first settled by citizens from Landau, South Russia, and is additionally considered a daugher colony of Katharinental and Speyer. Another source states: "FELSENBURG: 1) Gov. Cherson, Post Jelanec. 2) Gov. Cherson, Kreis Cherson, Post. Kriwoi-Rog, Wolost Michailowka" (a 1913 list doesn't show "Felsenburg," but it shows "Felsengut," founded in 1883).
